5 Outings to Celebrate Easter as a Family
Pastel hues, chocolate eggs, blossoming flowers, and sunny days… these are a few of the things that spring to mind when we think of Easter! The holiday is upon us, and regardless of how you celebrate, it’s undoubtedly a time to make special for the kids and the entire family. It’s also a time that serves as, well, an excuse to bring forth the season’s joyful florals, whites, and playful prints. Especially now that we’re lucky enough to back out and about again, there are plenty of fun-filled outings to enjoy as family. We’d love to help both you and your little ones do so in festive style!
This year, we’re excited for more of us to join together from far and wide than in recent times. Here are five outings, no matter where you live, to make the upcoming day special:
Easter egg hunts
Some suggest that the origins of the Easter egg hunt dates all the way back to the 16th century! Easter eggs were traditionally hard boiled eggs and now widely come in the form of little chocolates for the little ones to decorate, hide, and find. Now that you don’t have to keep your egg hunt in the house this year, consider hosting one in your local park. Our only recommendation is for the dress code to be Easter themed: think taffeta, florals, paisleys, frills, and organza collars. Don’t forget the accessories; notably the Easter basket for the little ones to collect their eggs inside. Other accessories to go with an Easter-smart outfit for the little ones are frilled socks and hats for the girls, and dungarees or ties for the boys!
An Easter show
If your little ones like entertainment, there are plenty of shows and interactive events on in cities around the world. Many of these shows will probably stem from Easter tales. Think of stories like Eric Carle’s beloved ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ books which celebrate the spring season and the outdoors. Check out what’s on for Easter at your designated favourite theatre, bookshop, or park!
A chocolate workshop
We’d be remiss not to mention chocolate again when it comes to Easter. Cocoa has plenty of interesting history, so why not learn with the kids about something we so often indulge in around this time of year. Lots of the our beloved chocolatiers, like Hotel Chocolat, run workshops to teach kids how beans transform into our favourite sweet treat. Don’t forget to wear your stylish aprons!
A cooking or baking class
We’ve already got treats on the mind, and that’s because no Easter celebration would be complete without a family gathering for a meal. The little ones usually highly anticipate the sugary delights that we all love to indulge on over the holiday. In Spain, we love a treat called torrijas, or bread dipped in eggs and bits of sugar, which is similar to French toast. In the UK, warm and zesty hot cross buns are always found on the table. In the US, Easter egg cookies are a favourite. Call up your local bakery and see if they run any family-friendly workshops. Apart from baking being a great way for kids to work on their motor skills, completing a recipe also gives kids a great sense of pride and fun!
Afternoon tea
Afternoon tea is always a great excuse to get dressed up. Given it’s an English tradition, we thought we’d mention our shop’s home city, London. Plenty of the city’s institutions offer a take on the tradition with an Easter theme. One of our favourites is the Peter Rabbit tea at Le Méridien Piccadilly that’s inspired by the Beatrix Potter tale. Expect interactive elements and of course multiple tiers of sweet treats.
Aqua at The Shard were inspired by Peter Pan and his adventures on the island of Neverland to make the Peter Pan Afternoon Tea with all sorts of sweet treats including Tinker Bell cookies and Captain Hook's Perish Cake. With panoramic views of the iconic London skyline, this is the definition of afternoon tea with a view! The cherry on top is that the afternoon tea is a partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital.

If you’re not in the city for the holiday, but have decided to get away to the country, locations like the Cotswolds are dotted with plenty of little restaurants and hotels that do a great Easter themed tea. Take a look at seven seasonal suggestions here!
If you’re taking the family to an Easter themed afternoon tea, dress everyone up accordingly. One of our favourite ways to make an outfit feel special is with a pair of celebratory shoes. We love a pair of Mary Janes for girls and loafers or lace-up shoes for the boys!
Staying home this holiday?
Fear not because you can recreate many of our favourite Easter traditions from your kitchen or garden. Think about hosting your own cooking class or setting up an egg hunt in the garden for the little ones. You can still dress up if you stay at home, too! Cue the family photos to be looked back on and savored for years to come.
However you decide to celebrate, Happy Easter and Feliz Pascua from us at Pepa & Co!
