Exclusive Q&A with Pepa González: On Creating a Royal-Inspired Collection with Historic Royal Palaces

When history and heritage meet timeless craftsmanship, something truly special is born. We sat down with Pepa González, founder of Pepa London, to talk about our exclusive collaboration with the independent charity Historic Royal Palaces, a partnership that not only marks a major milestone for the business but brings a treasured piece of royal history to life.

Q: Pepa, tell us how this incredible collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces came about?

Pepa: It all started when Historic Royal Palaces reached out to us — which was such a surprise and an honour in itself. Our brands align in terms of celebrating tradition, heritage, luxury and style. By working with Historic Royal Palaces we are the very first brand to be inspired by Queen Elizabeth II’s childhood dress, preserved in their collection. That moment alone felt surreal. As a brand that celebrates British heritage and craftsmanship, we were deeply moved by the trust they placed in us.

What does this collaboration mean for Pepa London as a brand?

Pepa: This project is truly a milestone for us. Being invited to work with such an esteemed charity like Historic Royal Palaces is a recognition of the values we hold dear quality, tradition, and heritage. It’s not just a collaboration; it’s a celebration of everything Pepa London stands for. Personally, I feel incredibly honoured to have been part of this journey.

That must have been a special moment. What was it like seeing the Queen’s childhood dress for the first time?

Pepa: Honestly, it was incredibly emotional. To stand there and see this beautiful piece of history so delicate, so personal and to be told we were the first brand to be able to be inspired by these precious garments and make them relevant for audiences today, was a privilege beyond words. You could feel the story and the legacy woven into every stitch. It reminded us of why we do what we do, to honour tradition while creating something meaningful and timeless.

Can you tell us about the pieces inspired by this historic dress?

Pepa: We’ve created a very special garment that draws directly from the Queen’s original childhood dress made from Liberty fabric, matching with her sister, Princess Margaret. It’s not a replica, it's our interpretation, our tribute. Every detail, from the silhouette to the fabric also being Liberty, has been thoughtfully considered to stay true to its heritage while making it wearable for today’s little royals.

What do you hope families take away from this collection?

Pepa: I hope it inspires a sense of wonder and a deeper appreciation for where we come from. This collection isn’t just about fashion; it’s about storytelling, about tradition, and about celebrating the beauty of British culture. We’re proud to offer families the chance to dress their children in something so unique, so meaningful. It’s a little piece of the past, lovingly reimagined for the future.
