Five ways to spend spring in London with the little ones
Spring has officially sprung! Flowers are blooming, the air is warming up, and the days are longer. Now that we’re out and about in the city again, there are plenty of things to do with your little ones in and around London to enjoy the season. Of course we’d be remiss not to mention that the spring wardrobe is one of those that we get most excited about —think sweet Spring florals, traditional dresses, classic shirts, and sweet Spring layers. Here are some of the best ways to spend a spring day in London, and a little style tip for each!
A day in the park
One of our favourite things about London is the access to plenty of beautiful green spaces. There are the expansive lawns of Hyde Park, the ever-exciting playgrounds of Battersea Park, the serpentines, and the cafes. Odds are wherever you live in London, there’s a green space for you and the little ones to enjoy.
Shorts, rompers and dungarees are essential for a fun day in the park while still looking sweet. Don't forget a comfortable pair of plimsolls to complete their look. They’re made of canvas, set on comfortable rubber soles, and laceless. The little ones won’t trip when they’re playing outdoors and they’ll look cute and put-together, too.
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre
-
Speaking of parks, you can combine a day outdoors with an outing to the theatre. The theatre is both entertaining and educational. One of London’s most beloved outings for warmer weather, any child over the age of four is welcome to attend Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. In the month of May, Legally Blonde will be showing, whilst 101 Dalmatians the musical is coming in July. That’s something for the slightly older kids and the little ones, too.
When it comes to dressing for an open-air theatre outing, we recommend preparing the kids for any type of weather (we’re talking about London, after all). That’s not to say they shouldn’t dress a little smart. Think cardigans, trousers, skirts with tights, and of course plenty of layers. Rain jackets and dressy wellies are a good idea if rain is in the forecast.
A day at the museum
-
Speaking of rainy day, when the forecast isn’t looking promising, there’s nothing better than a day at the museum. Visiting museums is one of the best indoor activities to partake in with the kids. We recommend heading to South Kensington, where you will find the neighbouring Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. If the sun does decide to come out, The Natural History Museum has its own outdoor Wildlife Garden. Take the kids to see the thousands of species which live there.
For a trip to the museum, don’t forget layers. Dress the little ones in sweaters in case the museum gets cold.
Food markets galore
-
If you have a foodie family, what better way to spend a spring day than at an outdoor food market? Borough Market is always a fan favourite. Browse through the endless stalls of treats with the kids and set up a picnic around the log stumps and tables set up amidst the market.
Garden parties
-
Yes, we are now upon the season of much-anticipated garden parties. Garden parties are a great way to organise something social for both the kids and the parents, alike. Here at Pepa & Co, we’ve curated our own selection of garden-party appropriate wear for the little ones. Think celebration dress code! Some of our personal favourites for the girls are floral-print smocked dresses and hair accessories (headbands and bows!). For the boys, a pleated pair of coloured shorts and a nautical cardigan will do just the trick.

However you’re planning to spend springtime in London, it’s a chance to get out of the house with the little ones and start anew!
